McTimoney for Horses FAQ's
How long does treatment take?
First treatments typically last 1½ hours. MOT treatments usually take 1 hour.
How many treatments will my horse need?
This depends on the severity of the problem. Emma likes owners to feel the benefit of the treatment, and then report back after one to two weeks. A further visit can then be arranged if required.
How soon can my horse return to work after treatment?
Horses need time after treatment for their musculoskeletal system to settle and adapt. This will usually take 24 – 48 hours therefore rest/grazing is normally recommended followed by a few quiet days gradually building up the work. Each horse will be given individual aftercare advice.
Is it recommended that horses have MOT/Check Ups even if there does not seem to be a problem?
MOTs are highly recommended. If small but repetitive minor traumas are left then the body will initially compensate. However, after a period of time when the compensatory methods are exhausted, pain and spasm will occur. An MOT will catch these minor problems early before they have time to develop. MOTs help to reduce time off work and to sustain the performance ability of the horse. Many owners have check ups before and after a particular season.
Will treatment be covered by my insurance?
Most major insurance companies cover Mctimoney treatment for your animal. However, it is best to phone up your insurance company and check if you are unsure.
