More about McTimoney Animal Manipulation
The functioning of every cell, tissue and organ in the body is controlled by the nervous system. Nerves that travel between joint spaces, particularly those of the spine, can become disturbed due to the joint losing its normal position or becoming restricted. This is called a misalignment. Nerves will then no longer carry correct impulses from the brain to the body and vice versa, causing a range of problems. Once these subtle misalignments have been corrected nerve function will be restored and the body will be able to heal itself.
Some misalignments can be corrected naturally when the animal stretches, rolls or exercises. However if the force that caused the misalignment was too great or repetitive, then the muscles surrounding the joint may go into spasm.
Muscle spasm can be extremely painful. The muscle fibres surrounding the existing spasm have to work harder to compensate. Over time these dysfunctional fibres join the spasm causing it to grow. This is often the stage that outside intervention is sought by owners or trainers.
Animals will try to adapt to muscle spasm and misalignment. They do this by using their bodies unevenly, eventually affecting their body symmetry and causing stresses and strains to other areas. |
