McTimoney Animal Manipulation: Non-invasive, safe, gentle & highly effective
Just like people, animals can suffer from neck, back, pelvic and general musculoskeletal pain. The McTimoney treatment has been helping a wide range of species since the 1950's, but is most commonly applied to horses and dogs.
The treatment is delivered by hand, and will align and balance the animal's musculoskeletal system. By adjusting misaligned joints throughout the whole body, paying special attention to the spine and pelvis, health, soundness and performance may be restored and maintained.
Misalignments can occur for a variety of reasons. Any asymmetrical force sustained by the animal, whether traumatic or repetitive, can cause misalignment and muscle spasm (please see links for more details)
Animals usually accept the treatment quite readily because it is so safe and gentle. Other techniques may also be used where appropriate such as Laser Therapy, mobilisation of a joint, stretching and massage.
The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 makes it illegal for any person to treat an animal unless they are a Veterinary surgeon or a "paraprofessional" performing manipulative therapies. McTimoney Animal Practitioners can treat with the consent of the animal’s Veterinary Surgeon, and will always verify that permission has been granted before treatment.
